BARBADIANS TO CELEBRATE QUEEN'S DIAMOND JUBILEE
Barbadians are expected to come out in their numbers, on Monday, June 4, at the Garrison Savannah, to witness the Beacon Lighting Ceremony, which will begin at 5:30 p.m.
First, armed detachments of the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) will depict Trooping the Colour, accompanied by the Massed Band of the BDF and the Royal Barbados Police Force. The sunset parade will feature the symbolic lighting of a seven-foot tall beacon at 6:30 p.m. by Jamar Millar, and Johnovan King of the Barbados Boy Scouts Association to mark that organisation's centenary. Churches are also expected to peal their bells to herald the celebrations.
Following the lighting of the beacon, members of the Royal Barbados Police Force will stage a tattoo, featuring its Mounted Troop, Canine Unit, Special Services Unit and the Motorcycle Division.
As a result, of the Beacon Lighting Ceremony, all schools and government offices will close on Monday at 2:30 p.m.
Tickets for the event may be collected from the Cabinet Office, Bay Street, for persons who are desirous of being seated.
The Beacon Lighting Ceremony will be preceded by a National Thanksgiving Service at St. Mary's Anglican Church, the City, on Sunday, June 3, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
